Hi all – January/February went by fast, at least in cyber-world. I know we all can not really stand the sight of any more snow or cold – but it is March in Maine and it always snows for the boat show or St. Paddy’s Day – just to remind us where we live. I am finding the hopeful feeling of Spring and once I start thinking about varnish and paint for the sailboat – it can’t be too far away.
Over February break, I had some fun putting together music for a short film and I hope to be doing more of this type of thing. A fun collaborative project and very satisfying…check out the short video..https://vimeo.com/88116564. Another milestone was getting the very talented Joseph Bacica to repair the old upright piano, “Thumper” – currently in residence at Local Sprouts. It sounds so much better and will hopefully hold pitch longer…
The Lay Z Gait band continues to play for the Swing/Stomp every other Wednesday; will be appearing at the Merrifield Farm for Maple Sugar Sunday; and has some fun gigs in May. The Hadocol Bouncers are playing once a month at Sprouts and have some exciting shows coming up in May and July. Sean Mencher and the Rhythm Kings are hitting the brunch every Sunday and are gearing up for the summer season. I am also playing once a month as a piano trio for some straight ahead jazz at Sprouts.
Teaching keeps me busy during the day, continuing to work at Waynflete, 317 and UNE. A new jazz club has formed at UNE and we are hoping this is a good sign for more student involvement in the future.
Remember – live music does not really happen without YOU! Spring is in the air – get yer butts off the sofa – turn off the TV – go hear some great live music and meet new friends and smell the fresh air..Hope to see you out and about! Tom
